  1. Who is the UYM?      Go Back

Located in Riverhead, NY, the United Yokefellow Ministry (UYM) is a private, governmentally chartered, equal opportunity, non-denominational charity and religious organization organized in NY under Article 9, religious law, and operating as a 501(c)(3) under Section 170 of the IRS Code of 1954, with a long standing and unblemished history dating back to, and registered with Dunn & Bradstreet since its inception in 1980.

The UYM currently distributes the majority of every dollar it brings in to support its beneficiaries and strives to continually distribute its time and resources responsibly, true to its long standing, 29-year history and heritage.

  1. What does the UYM do?Go Back

The original function of the UYM was to simply support and provide a place where abused women and children could come, be supported, and feel safe.  Today, through its affiliation with another 501(c)(3), Be Safe At Home (BSAH), the UYM has expanded its outreach to include senior care and housing as well as care and housing for disabled adults.  Contributions, donations, capital promotions, and continued support made by concerned and generous individuals and companies make our work in the community possible.  Our programs also support other non-profits as a service provider.

The UYM also acts as a service provider and administrator for various programs and services directly to other non-profit organizations on a peer-to-peer basis allowing them to take advantage of several key programs that may substantially increase or augment their funding programs while also taking advantage of the UYM’s long term stability and structure in an ever changing environment and economy. This unique function allows the UYM the ability to assist and support many other non-profit organizations in a way that permits these organizations to concentrate on their own programs and people while we do all the heavy lifting on their behalf.

  1. Why does the UYM give stuff away?Go Back

The UYM utilizes several means of raising funds to support its community outreach programs. Inevitably, the question always comes up as to why we operate the way we do and why we are so different from our peers in the charitable community. The simple and obvious answer is not always so simple and obvious, but just as some points of reference -- to begin with, we are the charitable organization, it is our job to assist and maintain the programs and organizations we have created and pledged to support. It is our simple philosophy, that the easier and more beneficial we make your participation with us and our programs, the better it is for everyone involved. The harder it is for our potential donors to say “no” to our promotional programs, the higher the participation rate and the more moneys raised to support the communities we continually serve.

We recognized early the realization that the best way to accomplish getting what we needed financially was to create a way that would allow everyone involved to benefit from their participation. In our unique fundraising endeavors, the donors benefit from being given the opportunity to win something of significant value as a thank you for their donation, our recipients benefit from receiving our ongoing services, and we of course benefit by having the ability to continually serve those in need of our assistance and to perpetuate our promotions and programs for their benefit – everybody wins.

  1. What does the money being raised support?Go Back

The funds that we raise are used to continue and expand the various community outreach programs we support and create specific to our mission. At the current time, the UYM’s programs primarily focus on senior (elder) housing and care, and the care and housing of disabled or developmentally challenged adults, however, we additionally strive to help everyone in need who comes to us for assistance. UYM’s programs have received much acclaim and recognition for their efforts from the media as well as the government; here are a few recent articles:

  1. Does the UYM receive any government funding?Go Back

Presently, the UYM receives no outside funding from the government and is completely funded through its own promotional programs and from the generous gifts and donations of generous people and corporations.

  1. Are donations made to the UYM tax-deductible*?Go Back

The answer to this question is yes, all donations are tax-deductible, and although we are not required to provide any type of acknowledgement for donations under $500, we strive to acknowledge every donation no matter its denomination. With regards to our special promotions, all donors will receive official tax-deductible receipts regardless of the amount of their contribution along with their thank you letter and fulfillment package so that they may claim their donation when they file their annual personal/corporate taxes.

* As a formal note regarding promotional donations, depending upon the size and nature of the gift, any contributions specifically associated with a fund raising promotion/give-a-way may or may not be considered a quid pro quo contribution under certain IRS codes possibly limiting the amount of your actual deduction; please consult your tax professional for further details.

  1. Is it safe to donate online?  How do I know?Go Back

Technology advancement and security software have made it safe to do secure transactions online, just like the banks, stores, and other financial institutions.  All of the UYM’s financial transactions are securely completed through its affiliation with Chase Manhattan Bank.

  1. How much of the money I donate actually goes to support your programs?

The UYM currently distributes almost 90 cents of every dollar it brings in to support its beneficiaries and strives to continually dispense its time and resources responsibly, true to its long standing, 29-year history and heritage.

  1. Can I make a donation directly to the UYM
to helpGo Back continue its work?

Thank you for considering us as a worthy cause and place for your much needed and appreciated contributions and donations.  Aside from our own internal fundraising efforts, we, and the programs we support, never seem to be short of the need for additional funding as we rely heavily on donations from concerned individuals, organizations and corporations to support and expand our community outreach programs (as running and maintaining our programs is both cost and labor intensive).  As such, one of the best ways to support the UYM, is to continually support our promotions.

If you would like to do more than that, our goal is to honor the intentions of all generous people, generous with both their time and their money.  In addition to straight cash donations, the UYM also accepts all types of donations including working vehicles, boats and motorcycles; homes and real estate, financial and insurance gifts, etc. Should you wish to speak with someone at the foundation regarding such a request and the unique aspects of our tax-deductibility, please contact us, and someone will contact you directly, thank you.

We greatly appreciate your time and consideration; and humbly thank you in advance for your generous and freely given support.
